The mid-cycle squeeze: ESTROGEN

Writer's picture: Sarah Rolfing, RNSarah Rolfing, RN

It's totally normal to experience fluctuations in your weight over the course of your cycle.

In the follicular phase of the cycle, estrogen is increasing toward the event of #ovulation

This rise in estrogen naturally facilitates increased sodium levels, which increases water retention.

Estrogen also increases blood vessel dilation and blood flow.

Why? Estrogen is building the house- it’s increasing the thickness of the uterus in case a possibly pregnancy occurs.

Progesterone, on the other hand, is produced in the second half of the cycle and is a natural diuretic and also relaxes blood vessels. This balance is crucial!

Our best advice?

Focus on the benefits that estrogen brings like increased confidence, energy and libido 👏🏻

Stress less about the scale 🫶🏼:)
